Earlier this year Lyn and I took an expedition voyage to the Ross Sea area of Antarctica.The goal was to visit Scott’s and Shackleton’s historic Huts used by Polar Expeditions in the early twentieth century.
The journey taken in the Antarctic summer, involved a passage through the infamous Southern Ocean, known for its rough seas and strong winds.
I would like to share our experience with a Talk illustrated by photographs showing the majesty of the White Continent.
In addition to exploring the Huts we visited, or cruised around in zodiacs, several Antarctic and sub-Antarctic islands.
As you would expect our trip featured much of the endemic Antarctic wildlife including seabirds such as the magnificent Albatross, Whales and other mammals, and an incredible 9 species of Penguins.
The last Expedition to use the Huts was the Ross Sea Party who were part of Shackleton’s Imperial Transatlantic Expedition 1914 -1917. Ten men were stranded on Ross Island…
